Rural Redesign Petition with 81% of Ward 2 Adults to be Presented to Port Hope Council

“WE the undersigned residents and/or property owners of Ward 2 of the Municipality of Port Hope respectfully request all administration and control of the former Hope Township (Ward 2) be severed from the Municipality of Port Hope and aligned with a like-minded rural community in order to best serve our residents and preserve our chosen rural lifestyle.”

All Rural Redesign Petition sheets have now been collected and the final count is 2603 signatures, representing slightly more than 81% of all adult residents and/or property owners in Ward 2 (Hope Township) in favour of severing all ties with the Municipality of Port Hope and aligning with a like-minded rural community.

The Rural Redesign Petition will be presented at the Municipality of Port Hope Committee of the Whole meeting on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2014 at 7 PM in the Council chambers at Port Hope Town Hall.

Volunteers have worked tirelessly canvassing door to door to get petition signatures since the initial launch of Rural Redesign at the Ganaraska Forest Center 3 weeks ago.  The petition was stopped at 81% only because of time constraints, not because the group ran out of people willing to sign. Reportedly the number of people who declined to sign the petition for reasons other than employment has been less than 0.1%.
