The Municipality of Port Hope has initiated the legislated review of its Official Plan pursuant to the requirements of Section 17 and 26 of the Planning Act, R.S.O. 1990, as amended. This is a five-year review which serves to update the Plan to be consistent with newer Provincial policies, as well as address any issues in the current Plan. A primary focus of this review will be looking at tools to help revitalize parts of the Municipality, such as the downtown and waterfront areas in Ward 1.
The Municipality of Port Hope has hired FOTENN Consultants Inc., to complete a review and update the Municipality of Port Hope Official Plan. A Background Report will be prepared along with an updated Official Plan and Community Improvement Plan. All of these documents and Schedules will be available on the Municipality’s website in draft form for the public to review and comment.
The municipal staff member to contact if you have any questions or comments about the Official Plan review, is the Director of Planning & Development Services, Ron Warne at rwarne@porthope.ca or at (905) 885-2431, ext. 2502.
Public Open Houses on Port Hope Official Plan Review
Two Public Open Houses (one in each Ward) were held to solicit initial feedback and obtain opinions and ideas regarding the Municipality of Port Hope Official Plan Review process, so that resident can provide their input on potential revisions to the Official Plan.
The first Open Houses were held on April 9th. Both Public Open Houses had the same format and material covered, including a formal presentation 30 minutes into the open house to detail: the purpose of an Official Plan (OP); the key policy components of the current Official Plan; the critical Municipal Plans and updated Provincial policies (in the last 5 years.) which need to be reviewed/ noted/ included in the Official Plan update; a brief summary of the Issues & Options identified thus far by the Province, MPH staff and Fotenn; a synopsis of the Official Plan Review process and timing; and an opportunity to solicit Public feedback on the presentation material and ask residents what Port Hope Official Plan policies they would like to see reviewed or revised, and why.
The second Open House, scheduled for June 11, 7-9 pm at the Town Park Recreation Centre, will provide an opportunity to review the results of the Workshop as well as the draft Official Plan Amendment and discuss next steps and timing. Fotenn Consultants will lead a facilitated workshop with stakeholders (i.e. community advisory groups, representatives of the development community, local business owners, special interest groups, etc.) focused on policy development for a new Community Improvement Plan for the downtown and waterfront areas in Ward 1.
