Below are the official terms and mandate of the Friends of the Shelter of Hope Committee as created and approved by the Shelter of Hope board (Joint Animal Control Municipal Services Board)
Role of the Friends of the Shelter of Hope
The primary roles of the Friends of the Shelter of Hope Ad Hoc Committee are to:
- Design public education programs for the services provided by the Shelter that assist in the promotion of the
Shelter of Hope’s Mission Statement - Recruit volunteers for all programs
- Develop additional services, in cooperation with staff, for connecting animals with their owners and potential
adopters - Create a policy and procedure for volunteers to provide transportation for shelter animals
- Collaborate with staff to organize adoption events
- Plan fundraising events and programs to increase donations to the Shelter
- Provide input into an updated Shelter Strategic Plan
- Review the Shelter’s policies and procedures
The roles as outlined above are not all inclusive.
The Joint Animal Control Municipal Service Board may from time to time assign additional roles as required.
Duties and Deliverables
The Friends of the Shelter of Hope will:
● Advise on issues and concerns faced by animals under the care of the Shelter of Hope;
● Advise on opportunities that have been identified within the four municipalities to improve
animal care;
● Review and make recommendations on solutions to improve animal care;
● Support, encourage and advocate by educating and building community awareness about
measures for improving animal care;
● Organize and participate in fundraising events designed to resource improved animal services
care;
● Become familiar with public views and concerns related to animals in the care of the Shelter;
● Participate in workshops and public events related to proposed animal care related issues;
● Provide comments and recommendations to the Joint Animal Control Municipal Service
Composition of the Friends of the Shelter of Hope
Membership consists of seven (7) individuals:
∙ One (1) resident of the Municipality of Port Hope
∙ One (1) resident of the Town of Cobourg
∙ One (1) resident of the Township of Hamilton
∙ One (1) resident of the Township of AlnwickHaldimand
∙ One (1) member at large from one of the four member municipalities
∙ Two (2) members of the Joint Animal Control Municipal Service Board
