Today’s news relates to the 2018 tax rates in By-Law 40/2018 that was passed by Council on May 15, 2018. For Ward 1 (Urban) the 2018 levy against tax bills is $15,288,190 (up 2.57% from $14,905,259 last year). For Ward 2 (Rural) the 2018 levy against tax bills is $3,558,750 (up 19.83% from $2,969,730).
Port Hopers for Fair Taxes (PHFFT) has provided a FAQ about the Taxation Allocation
Review Open House that was presented by the Municipality of Port Hope (MPH) on May 10th, at Town
Park Rec Centre. This set of notes attempts to gather some answers together for common questions.
The Court Order was simple and straightforward: MPH was to account for the income earned on the Fund and all payments made out of the Fund. MPH produced an accounting dated October 27, 2016. There appear to be a number of mistaken assumptions and misleading conclusions.
